Jessup Ends the Short Losing Skid, Taking Down OUAZ 76-49

Jovicevic drops 16 to lead the Warriors for the third game in a row; Jessup moves to 10-7 overall this season

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Maybe there is something in the water, or maybe it's just luck, but when the Warriors visit Faith Arena in Surprise, points often are scored in abundance. That was the case on Thursday, as Jessup overcame a two-game losing streak to knock off the host in Spirit, 76-49.

Faith Arena proved to be a milestone moment for the Warriors last season. In a February 12 victory, Jessup posted 95 points, the second most in a single game in program history.

On their success in Surprise, second-year head coach Corey Laster stated, "It's a good shooting gym, and it's been a good place for us to play, for sure."

An all-around scoring effort led the way for Jessup Thursday. For the third game in a row, Andrea Jovicevic led the scoring, dropping 16 points on 5-of-8 from the floor. Since returning to the starting lineup three games ago, Jovicevic is averaging 20 PPG.

The Warriors also saw scoring off the bench as Maddy Meadows and Andheya Aurelio scored 14 apiece.

Aurelio made the most of her 12 minutes of action as she connected on four triples. Laster spoke about her performance, noting, "It was awesome to see. Her and I have been talking, and I know she's been looking for opportunities to play more. But she still has a little way to learn as far as the point guard spot. But we've always known she was probably one of our best shooters."

"I really challenged her to concentrate on shooting, and she took it to heart. She did a great job tonight."

The Warriors needed just three seconds to get on the board as a layup from Natalie Moulos put Jessup on top. Jessup would never look back, leading for the remainder of the game as the score was never tied after 0-0.

Thursday's victory moves the Warriors to 10-7 overall and 5-3 within the GSAC. After a six-game win streak, the Warriors had fallen victim to two losses in a row last week on Horton Court.

On ending the losing streak, Laster noted, "Winning feels really good. But at the same time, we know we still have a lot of work to do."

Jessup will continue this Arizona road trip on Saturday when they visit Arizona Christian. The contest is scheduled for 11 a.m. (PST).
