Warriors Leave Arizona on the Wrong End of a 94-64 Defeat

Arizona Christian takes down the Warriors for the 12th time in a row; Jessup returns to Rocklin for two games next week

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Looking to avenge a season-ending loss from a year ago, the Warriors took on No. 5 ranked Arizona Christian on Saturday from Glendale. The Firestorm displayed why they are one of the top-five ranked teams in the country as they controlled this one en route to a 94-64 victory.

For Arizona Christian, Saturday's victory gives them 12 in a row against the Warriors. The Warriors have failed to beat ACU since January 25, 2018.

"We're not playing well right now," said head coach Lance Von Vogt. "We ran into a buzzsaw today. ACU executed well, they outtoughed us and made the key plays in the key moments. They showed why they're number five in the country and have a real shot to win the national title."

Arizona Christian lead for 94% of Saturday's action. The Warriors took the first leader of the day 2-0, but the Firestorm would quickly respond with a bucket of their own to get ahead on the scoreboard, an advantage they would never relinquish.

Following the loss, the Warriors find themselves in a position they did not want to be in this year, as they are just one game above .500 at 10-9. The Warriors are 4-5 in conference play.

"We had bigger aspirations than were we're at right now," added Von Vogt. "The only response that we can have that's going to give us a chance to get this season back on track is for us to go back go to work. Get into practice and develop the fundamentals that we've lost somewhere along the way, so that we can make good basketball decisions in a high level game environment."

Jessup's leading scorer in the loss was guard Cashemin Williams, with 16. Ty Artis contributed 14 points in 26 minutes off the bench, knocking down two triples in the process.

Xavier Lovelace also closed the night in double-figures, scoring 13 to pair with six boards.

Arizona Christian shot lights out from the floor, connecting on 51% of their attempts. Beyond the arc, ACU connected on 11 threes, with Paul Hayden and Dominic Gonzalez combining for seven of them.

Hayden and teammate Trent Hudgens led the scoring with 19 points each.

On how his team can overcome the hole they are in, Von Vogt added, "We're gonna put our head down, and we've been humbled, obviously, but we're hungry. And we're gonna give everything we've got to finish the season strong and put ourselves back to the playoff conversation."

The Warriors will return home next week as they host Hope International on Thursday. Following that contest, Jessup will host San Diego Christian on Saturday.
