Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Homestand Ends with Another Defeat as TMU Tops Jessup, 77-69

Williams drops 24 points one game after hitting the 1,000-point mark; The Warriors will have two postseason rematches next weekend in Arizona

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warriors got back to work on Saturday, looking to avenge Thursday's loss that snapped an eight-game home winning streak. Hosting The Master's Mustangs, the Warriors needed a second-half comeback to secure a win, and one was not in the cards as Jessup fell 77-69.

On the small skid his team has fallen into, head coach Lance Von Vogt stated, "We're not in sync to the level that we need to be at this point in the season so that we can win games in the GSAC. All of these teams are in midseason form, and we're still making the same type of mistakes that you make at the beginning of the season. So, we've got to get in sync."

The Warriors have fallen to 10-7 overall on the season. Jessup sits one game above .500 in the GSAC at 4-3.

"You know, there's eight teams that are national tournament level teams inside the GSAC, and that's proven every year," added Von Vogt. "Only six make the conference tournament. We're going to need to get a lot better, real quick, in order for us to have an opportunity to make the conference tournament."

Leading Jessup in scoring was once again Cashemin Williams, this time dropping 24 points. Williams was less than 48 hours removed from a historic milestone, as on Thursday, he became the third player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points with the Warriors (as members of the NAIA).

Jessup played catch-up for the majority of Saturday's battle, starting in the first half when they needed to come back from a ten-point hole with under four minutes to go. But the Warriors were up for it, this time, as they ended the half on a 14-4 run to send teams to their respective locker rooms tied at 34.

On being able to fight back in the first half, Von Vogt added, "When you play good teams like The Master's, and you dig yourself enough holes, you're not going to get out of one. Coming out of the second half, they had a really good first five minutes of the second half."

The second half would require the Warriors to again come from behind, but another TMU double-digit advantage would be too much to overcome.

Master's scored the first basket of the half 17 seconds out of the locker room, and they never relinquished the lead, sitting atop the scoreboard for the final 19:43 of regulation. TMU's largest lead of the day would be 14 points.

Next on the schedule for the Warriors is a contest many circled when the schedule came out, as Jessup will take on OUAZ in a rematch from last season's GSAC Championship Game.

Von Vogt noted that, while he understands the hype about the game, the majority of his team was not on the team that February night in Fullerton.

After their date in Surprise, Jessup will face off with Arizona Christian, the school that ended Jessup's season in the NAIA Tournament last year.
