Royals Sweep the Warriors to End Southern California Trip

Jessup led 3-1 in the middle innings of game two; The Warriors are on the road again next weekend, taking on OUAZ and Arizona Christian

FULLERTON, Calif. – Following back-to-back extra-inning battles a day ago, the Warriors continued their road trip on Saturday by taking on Hope International. The day did not go as planned for Jessup as they dropped two, falling to 5-4 in conference action.

Jessup started the day against the reigning NAIA Pitcher of the Week, HIU's Allie Puente. Puente held the Warriors to just one run (unearned) on five hits in a complete-game performance. Her counterpart, Katie Blankenheim, logged two innings after tossing a career-high nine innings on Friday. Serena Navarrete, followed with four innings in relief.

Jessup scored their lone run of the game in the sixth off an RBI single from Aaliyah Pineda, but it would not be enough as the Royals took the opener 6-1.

HIU scored first again in game two, tagging Terra Goetz with a run off a fielder's choice. But the Warriors responded, tying the game on Hannah Dominguez's two-run double in the second. Dominguez would later score on Lexi Watson's RBI single.

Leading 3-1, Jessup carried the lead into the fourth until a pair of HIU runs evened the score. The Royals would add the winning run in the sixth as Bella MacFarlane took the loss out of the bullpen for the second day in a row.

Jessup managed to total just four hits in game two, opposed by seven from the Royals.

The Warriors will be on the road again next weekend when they visit Arizona. The trip begins with the Warriors visiting OUAZ in Surprise for a doubleheader and then some. On top of the two scheduled road games, Jessup will also be finishing up their contest from March 11 that was rained out in the first inning.

Jessup will wrap up the trip on Saturday when they visit Arizona Christian.
