SANTEE, Calif. – With the season's end coming up, the Warriors went on the road for the final time this season as they took on the Hawks of San Diego Christian. Needing wins to stay in the thick of the postseason hunt, the Warriors fall victim to another sweep, keeping them on the outside looking in for the postseason picture.
Game one was a pitcher's duel throughout as neither side found the scoreboard until an RBI single put the Hawks on top in the bottom of the sixth.
Needing a last-minute rally, Jessup got the big hit they searched for all game as
Aaliyah Pineda hit a two-run home run in the seventh, placing Jessup three outs away from victory. But the Hawks would not quit, tying the game in the bottom half before walking off with an RBI single in the eighth, taking game one 3-2.
Terra Goetz started game one for the Warriors, tossing all eight innings while allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits. She also struck out three, but the loss dropped her to 10-5 on the season.
Game two saw a shutout performance out of the Hawks' Katlyn Bailey as her complete game performance saw her allow six hits while walking one and striking out five. SDCC won game two, 4-0.
The Warriors went to
Katie Blankenheim as the starter in game two. Blankenheim falls to 7-12 on the season after allowing two runs on five hits over four innings.
Bella MacFarlane and
Serena Navarrete also tossed an inning each in relief.
The path to the postseason is a tricky one for the Warriors, as they will need some help tomorrow in order to secure a return trip to OC Great Park. Tomorrow's doubleheader between Arizona Christian and Vanguard will be one to keep an eye on, as a sweep, either way, goes in Jessup's favor.
The Warriors could sneak in over Menlo, but to do so, they will need Menlo to lose at least once tomorrow to the Hawks, setting up a must-sweep for Jessup against Menlo on Tuesday. Two Menlo victories will guarantee a trip to Irvine for the Oaks.
Jessup will wrap up their regular season on Tuesday as the Oaks come to Foskett Regional Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
