SURPRISE, Ariz. – The 2023 Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament began on Tuesday, with the best tennis teams in the conference hitting the courts in Arizona. Drawing Hope International in both contests, Jessup sees the tennis season meet its end as the Royals advance in both tournaments.
The women's contest, starting in the afternoon, saw the Royals take the doubles point with a 6-1 and 6-2 victory. Singles action saw the Warriors record their lone point via
Aysha Hayes as the senior won in straight sets of Tiffany Beukes (6-3, 6-2).
Doubles action in the men's contest saw
Sam Smith and
Austrebeto Carlon win their bout 6-2, but the Royals would take the other two matches to win the point.
Carlon and Smith continued their momentum in singles play, winning straight-set battles. Carlon's contest did need a tiebreaker in the first set, which he won 7-5, to earn the point over HIU's Reid Lizardo.
Isaac Graves also secured a point for the Warriors, but the Royals would take three singles matches as well, giving them a 4-3 victory.
The Jessup men end season two 8-9. Jessup's women's team closes out the season 4-10.
