ATHERTON, Calif. – Two Northern California rivals met up on Saturday as the Warriors paid a visit to Menlo College in Atherton. For the sixth time this season, Jessup saw a match reach the fifth set, but this time, it would not be the Warriors edging out a win as Menlo gained the victory, 3-2.
Jessup came into Saturday's match 5-0 in matches that reached the fifth set. The loss moves the Warriors to 7-4 overall, while their GSAC record moves to 3-2.
Junior
Madalyn Miller led all players in Saturday's match with 19 kills, doing so with a .208 hitting percentage. Miller has totaled double-digit kills in nine straight matches, as the only match she did not reach double digits was Jessup's opening-day loss in Ashland.
The Warriors claimed victory in the opening set, 25-22, but quickly they found themselves in a hole as Menlo claimed sets two and three. The ending to set three left fans scratching their heads as
Taylor MacCuish seemingly recorded a kill to even the score at 24, but after minutes of discussion, the call was overturned, giving the Oaks the set.
Jessup responded with force, dominating their way to a 25-14 victory in the fourth to force the decisive fifth set that would go in favor of Menlo, 15-7.
Menlo moves to 4-1 in conference play with the win, putting them in a tie for second place in the conference with Life Pacific. Jessup sits in fourth, leading The Master's by a game.
Jessup will see The Master's next weekend, but first, they will square off with Life Pacific on Friday, September 29. The 7 p.m. match with LPU will be followed by a 2 p.m. contest with TMU the next day.
