MESCALERO, N. M. – Four Warriors shot in the 70s on Tuesday as the RJGA South Central Shootout wrapped up from Inn of the Mountain Gods GC. With a sixth-place finish as a team, the Warriors continue to show improvement in year one under head coach
Seth Heppner.
Monday's storyline was freshman
Michael Sorber, as he posted the low round of the field with his second round 67. Sorber came into Tuesday tied for fourth, and after a final round of 74, he finishes the week tied for fifth.
Sorber finished the tournament even across 54 holes.
Traejan Andrews of Fort Lewis College claimed the individual championship with a 54-hole score of five under. He beats Will Tate (UT Permian Basin) and Arnav Arkanath (Western New Mexico), who tied for second at two under.
UT Permian Basin edged past West Texas A&M by two strokes to take home the team title.
The low round of the day for the Warriors came from
Jerah Venkaiya, as he climbed 13 spots on the leaderboard with a final round of 70 (-2). Venkaiya finished +10 for the tournament, putting him in a tie for 24th in the 52-player field.
Others in the field for the Warriors included
Nicholas Schultz (35),
Trevor Halloran (T39), and
Braden Armstrong (45).
Men's Golf will continue their fall season next week when they head to Corning for the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Chico State at the Links at Rolling Hills. That will be followed by the Otter Invitational on October 14, hosted by CSU Monterey Bay.
