Golf Leaves Palm Coast with a Fifth-Place Finish

Sorber finishes in a two-way tie for ninth; Schultz posted a scorecard in the 70s each day of the tournament

10/23/24

PALM COAST, Calif. – A five-tournament fall has come to a close with a fifth-place finish at the NCCAA Men's Golf National Championship. Coming into the day as one of four times vying for second place, a team score of 316 secured the Warriors the same positioning at the end of the day they sat in at the beginning.

Wayland Baptist, who entered Tuesday with a commanding lead, kept that comfort as they took the national crown with a 22-stroke victory over Bethel (IN). Benjamin Lubker (Wayland Baptist) walked away as the individual champion with a three-round score of -1.

Jessup's leader was freshman Michael Sorber, as he concludes his first collegiate fall with a tie for ninth. Sorber posted 77 (+5) in the final round, as he concluded the tournament with a score of +8.

Braden Armstrong, who entered the day tied with Sorber at sixth, finished in 19th after a final round of 84 (+12). Jerah Venkaiya moved to T22 with a round of 78 (+6), finishing the week with back-to-back rounds in the 70s.

Jessup also saw Nicholas Schultz post 78 in the final round, as his consistent play produced a round in the 70s each day. Schultz finished T25. Trevor Halloran rounded out the field with a T44 finish after a final round of 83 (+11).

The fall schedule, the first under head coach Seth Heppner, began back on September 9 when the Warriors teed off at the PCH Invitational in Carmel. The five-tournament slate saw Jessup compete across three states during two months, ending here with the university's first appearance in an NCCAA event.

Dates for the spring season have not been finalized, but once completed, they will be announced at jessupathletics.com. The 2025 PacWest Championship, Jessup's first as a member of the conference, will be hosted by Academy of Art in North Las Vegas, NV, from April 21-23.
