CORNING, Calif. – Two rounds of golf were on the card for the Warriors Monday, as day one of the Wildcat Invitational teed off. The Warriors turned in two scorecards in the red as they head into the final 18 holes tomorrow in Corning.
 
The action began with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at The Links at Rolling Hills, a 72-track. The eight-team field sees CSU East Bay take the lead into day two, while the Warriors find themselves sitting in eighth.
 
Freshman Michael Sorber had a great Monday for the second week in a row, this time with his opening round as he posted a score of 70 (-2) to start. Sorber shot 67 last week in the second round of the RJGA South Central Shootout in New Mexico.
 
Sorber then posted 74 (+2) in the second round, placing him even heading into Tuesday. He sits in 15th place.
 
Another red number was posted by the Warriors, this time in the second round by Jerah Venkaiya, who posted 71 (-1) in his second round. He began the day with an opening round 78 (+6), placing him in 28th heading into Tuesday.
 
Venkaiya has broken par in two of his last three tournament rounds.
 
The highlight hole of the day came on the par five tenth, playing at 525 yards. Sophomore Braden Armstrong eagled the hole, which was hole 17 on his scorecard, with the shotgun start, the only eagle from the Warriors on Monday. Armstrong posted 75 (+3) in his opening round, which he followed up with five birdies in the second round on the way to shooting 73 (+1).
 
Trevor Halloran (T-42) and Rex Rollins (T-49) round out the five Warriors in the lineup for Jessup this week. Matthew Shimizu (36) and Paolo Castaneda (T-49) are also in the field as individuals.
