Softball Dominates and Sweeps the Weekend in Folsom

Jessup's pair of shutout victories lead to a series sweep; Sarah Giles continues hot streak at the plate, hitting her 4th home run of the season

FOLSOM, Calif. - The Warriors tacked on another pair of wins in Saturday afternoon matchups to complete the series sweep on the weekend. With a combined 15 hits on the day and 14 runs, the Warriors now move to a 6-1 overall record as they roll into their early season.

Pitching and offense were again strong points as Jessup faced Corban University and Westcliff University for the second day.

"Four wins are great, but what's even greater this weekend was the contribution from every jersey put on over the two days; every highlight accomplished was as one, and we will continue to celebrate each of those sparks that lead to the whole picture of being a Warrior," said head coach Brie Campbell

Bella MacFarlane pitched a shutout in game one and tossed five innings in a mercy rule victory. The sophomore only allowed two hits and struck out four to move to 2-1 on the season.

Jessup batted through the lineup in the first inning alone and put up a respectable six runs. Small ball and good base running were effective which started the scoring spree off early. Sarah Giles would then hit the long ball to tally her fourth homerun on the season thus far.

"The bats were alive again today, but undoubtedly, Sarah had an exceptional day at the plate, continuing to lead us in the cleanup spot and solidifying confidence and leadership as a big threat in the lineup," continued Campbell.

Giles would go 3-3 at the plate with four RBIs, alongside good offensive days from Olivia Dominguez (3-4) and Maddy Ybarra (2-3).

Jessup beat Corban University with a final score of 11-0.

Serena Navarrete got the start in the circle for game two and secured her first win, going 4.0 innings and allowing no runs to cross the board. The senior duo of Navarette and Blankenheim would keep Westcliff at zero and secure another shutout win for the Warriors.

The pitching staff got high praise from coach Campbell on another successful weekend, "This weekend we had four games with the same number of starts from our pitching staff holding the weekend to just two runs. I cannot say enough about the hard work that went into every inning, every pitch from Katie, Terra, Bella, and Serena; they got the job done and trusted their defense to do their part, teamwork at its finest."

Madisyn Leffle, Kaylee Winn, and Neva Adams found success at the plate in game two as Jessup continued to pass the bat and beat Westcliff in a final score of 3-0.

Jessup look to continue their success as they hit the road and head to Georgia for the NFCA Invitational next weekend.

"In my five years coaching, we've never left home for non-conference matchups, and I'm excited to take this team across the country to compete against the top 15 teams in the country next week at the NFCA Invitational."
