Softball Run-Rules to Begin GSAC Play

Jessup starts GSAC conference play with a 2-0 record; Madisyn Leffle goes 6-8 on the day with five stolen bases

ATHERTON, Calif. - The newly ranked #11 Warriors of Jessup University began their GSAC conference play with two wins, one in mercy rule fashion. Jessup traveled up the road to the Bay area to take on Menlo College on Wunderlich Field for a Saturday afternoon pairing.

Jessup defeated the Oaks in game one with a final score of 7-1 and a run-rule win in game two of 8-0. These two wins pushed the Warriors to a 2-0 record in GSAC and 18-2 overall.

The pitching duo in game one was commanded by starter Katie Blankenheim, who tossed 3.0 innings, and reliever Serena Navarrete with 4.0 innings pitched. Blankenheim is now 5-1 on the season.

The Warriors stepped on the gas early, passing the bat to put up a 2 spot in the top of the first inning. A big offensive knock by Sarah Giles (2-4) in the bottom of the second inning sparked the Warriors' dugout with a solo home run. This is her tenth home run of the year.

The bats were hot up and down the lineup, with multiple Warriors having commanding days in the box: Kaylee Winn (2-4), Madisyn Leffle (3-4), and Maddy Ybarra, who batted 4-4 in game one.

Jessup would continue to extend their lead and defeat the Oaks in a final score of 7-1.

Game two only saw six innings, but the offensive spark continued, resulting in a mercy rule victory of 8-0 in favor of the Warriors.

Maddy Ybarra and Kaylee Winn both homered in the third inning. Giles (10), Ybarra (6), and Winn (5) sit at the top of the GSAC home run leaderboard.

Madisyn Leffle went 6-8 on the day and stole five bases, putting her at the top of the GSAC leaderboard with 35 total on the season.

The battery sequence continued to show dominance, flowing over into game two. Terra Goetz saw her fourth win of the year in 4.0 innings pitched. Bella MacFarlane shut down the Oaks in the last two innings.

The Warriors will make their first trip to SoCal next weekend to take on Hope International (#6) and Vanguard University.
