Blankenheim Deals in Game One Victory in Hattiesburg

The top-seeded Warriors defeated Stillman College, the no. 5 seed, 6-3; Jessup will play tomorrow at 11:00 AM.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - On a sunny day on the east coast in Mississippi, the No. 1 seeded Warriors defeated the fifth seed of Stillman College. After having a bye yesterday, the well-rested Warriors soared to a victory to stay in the winner's bracket in Hattiesburg.

After a 6-3 victory, the Warriors look ahead to tomorrow's game against William Carey at 11:00 AM EST.

High energy pushed the Warriors to a game-one victory in a well-rounded game up and down the lineup. Jessup plated three runs in the first inning to begin the spark initiated for the rest of the game.

Head coach Brie Campbell complimented the demeanor of today's contest, "Today was a great day all around! From the box to the circle to the energy from the dugout, the team came out to be successful, and they were. It's a blessing to be here, and each day, we see it as a gift from God to put on our cleats and play another day."

With bases juiced, Sam Lorger drew an RBI walk to begin the scoring. Kaitlyn Fanning completed the job with a two-run single. Fanning continued her hot day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Neva Adams pushed the lead further in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run RBI single. Jessup continued to pass the bat, with Maddy Ybarra going yard with a solo home run in the sixth inning for some cushion. Lights-out defense was also a crucial component for the Warrior's win.

Starting pitcher Katie Blankenheim dealt in the circle, tossing seven innings with five strikeouts and only allowing five hits. "I think anyone who knows her knows Katie is a competitor, and today, she came out to compete. She leads this team with her drive and composure when in the circle, which was nothing new today," said Campbell.

Jessup will cleat up tomorrow for an 11:00 AM (EST) game in the winner's bracket against William Carrey.
