GREENVILLE, S.C. – In an official announcement made last week, Jessup University has been accepted as a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). The Warriors will be eligible for NCCAA competition starting in the fall of 2024.
Jessup University becomes one of five schools to be accepted for NCCAA membership. Joining the Warriors are Blue Mountain Christian University, Grace University, Nobel University, and Union Adventist University.
In an official statement released from their national headquarters, NCCAA Executive Director Curt Fowler stated, "The NCCAA is excited to welcome new members, especially in some of our more western regions. The opportunity to assist these schools in growing and establishing their intercollegiate athletic programs with integrity and excellence is one we take very seriously as we know the impact on the institution, but also on the lives of alumni for years to come."
The addition of NCCAA membership comes in conjunction with Jessup's upcoming transition into NCAA Division II. The fall of 2024 will be Jessup's first official season of NCAA DII competition, and with the Warriors being ineligible for NCAA postseason play until the fall of 2026, Jessup will be eligible to compete in all NCCAA postseason tournaments immediately.
Joining the NCCAA also allows for the Warriors to continue playing universities that share in Jessup's Christ-centered values.
Vice President of Athletics Lance Von Vogt shared these sentiments in his official comment. "Jessup's Christ-centered approach to higher education coupled with the NCCAA's #KingChasing initiative focusing on love, integrity, faith, and excellence makes this a perfect fit as we transition to the PacWest Conference and NCAA DII."
He added, "We often talk about playing for an audience of one, and with our membership in the NCCAA, we will be joining an exclusive association of other Christian universities who also play for an audience of one."
Competing in the western region, Jessup will see many familiar faces in NCCAA competition. OUAZ and Westmont, both former GSAC rivals of the Warriors, compete in the NCCAA. Reoccurring non-conference opponents such as Bethesda and SAGU American Indian College are also members of the West Region.
Justice College, Providence Christian, and West Coast Baptist round out the western region.
Von Vogt concluded by adding, "Jessup's membership to the NCCAA provides our student-athletes with the opportunity to compete for national championships during our provisional years in the NCAA. We are looking forward to the spiritual formation that will undoubtedly occur when we compete at these national championships."
