ROCKLIN, Calif. - Jessup women's soccer made their home debut in front of a packed house on a scorching Friday afternoon. Their first game in NCAA DII ended in a heartbreaker, as the Penguins scored in the final seconds.
The Warriors kicked off their 2024 season in a scrimmage against Cosumnes River College to end the month of August. Today, Jessup took on Dominican University of California in a non-conference contest on Warrior Field.
The heat didn't press the Warriors as they competed in a strong offensive and defensive contest. Unfortunately, the favor was with the visitors of Dominican University as they found the back of the net to seal the win with four seconds to go.
The score stayed zero for the entirety of the first half as defense soared on both ends. First-time Warrior junior
Celeste Fernandez started in goal for Jessup to keep the Penguins scoreless most of the contest. Fernandez had six saves on the day.
The second half mirrored the first half, as the score remained zero. This game came down to the final four seconds of the countdown and ended in heartbreaker fashion, with Dominican finding the back of the net to secure the win 1-0.
The Warriors have a weekend rest and will be back at Warrior Field on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in a matinee contest against CSU Monterey Bay.
