Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. – The Jessup University Men's Basketball team put up a spirited fight in a high-stakes, tightly contested road game Saturday night, ultimately falling just short in a 78-75 decision against the Cal St. East Bay Pioneers at Pioneer Gym.
Despite the loss, the Warriors showed incredible offensive efficiency, shooting a blistering 51.9% (27-for-52) from the field as a team. The Pioneers took a narrow five-point lead into the half, 39-34, and maintained a slight edge throughout the second period. While Jessup's shooting percentages were excellent, a disparity in key metrics proved to be the difference.
The Warriors collected only 22 total rebounds and struggled to protect the ball, turning it over 16 times, which East Bay converted into crucial possessions.
The offensive attack by the Warriors was spearheaded by two dynamic performances from forward Aleksandar Mitrovic and guard Cayden McDaniel, who combined for 42 points on the evening.
Mitrovic was unstoppable on the offensive end, leading the Warriors with a game-high 22 points. The forward was a model of efficiency, shooting a near-perfect 8-for-9 from the field and converting 5 of his 6 free-throw attempts.
Mitrovic was backed up by McDaniel, who poured in 20 points on 6-for-10 shooting, and added three steals to his line, showcasing his active presence on both ends of the court.
Tom Parsons also provided a highly effective offensive output, contributing 13 points on 4-for-5 shooting before fouling out late in the contest.
Jessup will look to bounce back when they return home to Warrior Arena for the Bill Holtz Classic. The Warriors are set to host the CSU Monterey Bay Otters on Friday, November 21st. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
