Another Shutout Seals the Series in Costa Mesa

MacFarlane holds Vanguard to six across seven shutout innings; Three of Jessup’s four hits went for extra bases

COSTA MESA, Calif. – It was bounce back day in Costa Mesa, as a split on Friday set up a rubber game on Saturday to decide the series between the Warriors and Vanguard. With another dazzling performance in the circle, the Warriors shut out Vanguard for the second day in a row, as a 5-0 win ends a week in Southern California

.

Jessup returns home having gone 3-4 on their Southern California road trip that saw Jessup play seven games across five days.

The series began with a split on Friday. Vanguard opened with a 7-3 victory, but the Warriors responded with freshman Jazlyn Villavicencio tossing the first complete game shutout of her career.

Head coach Brie Campbell looked to Bella MacFarlane to wrap up the week, and MacFarlane produced a near carbon copy of Villavicencio's outing as she too held the Lions off the board in a complete game performance. In those seven innings in the circle, MacFarlane allowed six hits while walking three and striking out two.

Her offense only managed to get four hits, but they made the most of those four, with three going for extra bases.

Neva Adams put the Warriors on the board in the second with a double to plate Kylie Nunes. The second extra-base hit came in the third when Sarah Giles drove in a pair with a double to right-center, plating Madiysn Leffle and Rebekah Beasley. Nunes then kept the line moving in the third with a double to bring Giles home.

Mixed in was a sacrifice fly from Aaliyah Pineda in the second.

Following the game on loss on Friday, Jessup outscored Vanguard 8-0 across the next 14 innings of softball. The Warriors leave Costa Mesa having taken two of three, outscoring the Lions 11-7 in the process.

Jessup will stay on the road next week, as four games in the Bay Area await them. The Warriors will visit Cal State East Bay for a duo of games on Friday before resuming the conference season on Saturday with a visit to Menlo.
