Team Five’s Run at a Fourpeat Ends as National Runner-Up

Jessup needed to sweep the final routine to force overtime; Davenport avenges a national championship loss from 2024

04/27/25

NASHVILLE, Calif. – Team Five chased the dream of a fourpeat as far as they could as the 2025 season met its end on Sunday in the Division II STUNT National Championship Game. In the third meeting of the season between Jessup and Davenport, it came down to the final routine in determining a National Champion.

Needing to score all three points, Jessup claimed the first, but Davenport grabbed the second, cementing a championship for the Panthers.

The Warriors, who won three consecutive national championships to end their NAIA era, exit year one of Division II as the national runner-up.

Sunday's game was a battle for the ages. Jessup controlled the momentum early, taking a 4-1 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter. Davenport responded with two points in the second, but Jessup matched with points on routines six and seven to send the game into the intermission with the Warriors leading 6-3.

Jumps and tumbling created an opportunity for Davenport to claw back into the game, and the Panthers took advantage. Davenport scored off all four routines with Jessup managing a tie on routine one, sending the game to the fourth tied at 7-7.

The two teams also entered the fourth quarter tied on Friday, which ended in a one-point Jessup win.

Davenport kept their wave of momentum going by calling routine eight to open the fourth, and they answered with all three points. Jessup responded with a timeout and called three out of the break, scoring two to the Panthers' one. Davenport matched Jessup with a timeout of their own and called four, scoring two off of it to Jessup's one.

Heading to the final routine, Jessup trailed by three and needed to sweep the board to force overtime.

Head coach Alexis Blunk looked to routine seven, a routine Jessup scored on twice earlier in the match. The first point went to Jessup, but the point for tumbling went to Davenport, securing the game. The final point was a tie to wrap up a 15-12 finish.

Davenport is the 2025 champion of Division II STUNT, redeeming a championship game loss the previous year to Oklahoma Baptist.

Jessup drops a game in STUNT Nationals for the first time since 2022. All-time they sit 12-2 in national competition. They end their first Division II season 15-7.
