Jessup Men's and Women's Golf Open Their Fall Seasons

The men's and women's golf team opened their fall season at the Wildcat Classic and the RJGA Shootout

ROCKLIN, Calif. - This week, the Jessup Men's and Women's golf teams both opened their 2025-2026 seasons of competition. The Men's team competed at Peachtree Country Club in Marysville, California, at the Wildcat Classic hosted by Chico State. The women's team traveled to Goodyear, Arizona, to play at the Golf Club of Estrella for the RJGA Shootout at Estrella.

Juliaan Canda led the Women's team with a tie for sixth place, shooting rounds of 72 and 74 for a total of two over par for the week, a career low and personal best. Senior Jessica Burdick also contributed to the team's efforts with a 74 in the first round, followed by an 84. 

Overall, the women finished 53 over par with scores of 306 and 323, placing 11th out of 14 teams and second among PacWest schools. California State San Marcos won the team invite with a total score of +3. With Theresa Shaw of Vanguard winning the overall individual tournament at -3.

The Men's team stayed close to home at Peachtree Country Club, just 35 minutes north of campus. They delivered a strong team performance, finishing in ninth, shooting even par over 54 holes, and setting a new team scoring record for 54 holes. Chico State would win the team competition with a score of 41 under, with two wildcats respectively tying for first at -13 for the three rounds. 

Freshman Jacobus Brakee led the five-man team with scores of 71, 71, and 74, finishing even for the week. Transfer Junior Nick Chavarin also performed well, finishing one over par with rounds of 70, 71, and 76. Nicholas Schultz shot his personal best as a Warrior with rounds of 74, 72, and 72. Braden Armstrong and Paolo Castenda both tied for 56th at five over par, with Castaneda shooting an impressive 70 in the second round.

Playing individually, Junior Trevor Halloran led the Warriors in scoring, posting three rounds in red figures. Shooting six under par for the week, posting both his lowest round as a Warrior, as well as his lowest total score for a tournament. Freshman Sam Cooper also played individually, posting a 79th-place finish at +15  with a low round of 75 in the second round.

Heppner has this about both teams: "It was a solid start to the season with lots of promise from both teams. Something to build off of, showing us what we're doing well and where we need improvement. Got our feet wet this week, and excited to see what the rest of the fall brings."

Both teams return to action next week. The men's team will travel to Lacey, Washington, for the Kevin Bishop Invitational, while the women's team heads to Utah for the Wasatch Invitational.
