CHICO, Calif. – The Jessup University women's soccer team concluded its challenging non-conference schedule with a 4-0 loss to Chico State University on a bright Saturday afternoon, September 20. The match, played on the road in Chico, served as a final, high-intensity tune-up before the Warriors embark on their inaugural journey through the demanding PacWest Conference.
While the Warriors fought hard, the Wildcats' potent offense proved to be the difference, scoring four goals throughout the match and showcasing their clinical finishing ability. Chico State dominated the shot count, out-shooting the Warriors 17 to 7, with six shots on goal compared to Jessup's four. Jessup's talented goalkeeper,
Celeste Fernandez, made two crucial saves in the first half to keep the Warriors in the game before being substituted. On the other side of the pitch, Chico State's goalkeeper, Claire Schnabel, stood tall, recording four saves to secure the clean sheet.
The game was a physical and hard-fought battle, a testament to the intensity of collegiate soccer. A total of 19 fouls were committed between the two teams, highlighting the determined play of both squads. The Warriors were awarded two corner kicks throughout the contest, while the Wildcats earned four.
With the non-conference slate now behind them, the Warriors turn their full attention to the start of their historic PacWest Conference play. The team will look to use the lessons learned from their challenging pre-season schedule as they prepare to face the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific University at home on Thursday, September 25.
