Warriors Outlast Dominican in Five Sets, 3-2, at the Conlan Center

Jessup wins a 16-14 fifth set on the road behind Jayden Jones’ 17 kills, Mia Rivera’s .571 hitting and Kjersti Jacobson’s 48 assists

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Jessup women's volleyball beat Dominican (CA) 3-2 on Saturday night at the Conlan Center, taking set scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 19-25 and 16-14 in front of 91 fans. The Warriors (4-13, 2-7 PacWest) held off a late push from the Penguins (4-13, 1-8 PacWest) in the deciding set. The match featured 18 ties and 12 lead changes.

Jessup controlled the first set, hitting .286 with 13 kills and three errors to Dominican's .178 and winning 25-21. The Penguins answered in the second, hitting .282 with 13 kills and just two errors to take it 25-20 and even the match. The Warriors regained the lead in the third, hitting .278 and posting 14 kills against four errors to win 25-19. Dominican forced a fifth set by taking the fourth 25-19, as Jessup hit just .023 in the frame with 10 kills against nine errors. The fifth set stayed tight throughout, with three ties and three lead changes, and neither team hit above .154. Jessup closed it out 16-14.

Jones led the Warriors on offense with 17 kills and a .356 hitting percentage on 45 swings, adding two aces and 14 digs for 19.0 points. Rivera was the most efficient hitter in the match, collecting 14 kills with only two errors on 21 attempts for a .571 clip. She also had a solo block and five block assists, for 18.5 points. Jenna Kraft added 12 kills and a team-high 16 digs among the Warriors' attackers. August Stys chipped in seven kills and three block assists, and Mckinley King added six kills, three block assists and 14 digs.

Kjersti Jacobson ran the offense, tallying 48 assists with three aces and 25 digs, and also had two kills and three block assists in a complete performance at setter. Libero Lillian Smith added 15 digs, four assists and two aces to help the Warriors collect 94 digs as a team, 14 more than Dominican's 80.

Jessup was outhit .204 to .178 and was outkilled 62-60, but won on serve and block. The Warriors committed only four service errors to Dominican's nine, and both teams finished with nine aces. Jessup also controlled the net, finishing with nine total blocks (one solo and 16 assists) to Dominican's three. Both teams hit between .178 and .204 with 23 and 27 attack errors respectively, and the Warriors had 56 assists to Dominican's 57.

Dominican was led by Alexis Schwartz, who recorded 31 kills on 71 swings, hit .296 and added two aces and 11 digs for a match-high 33.0 points. 

Up next the Warriors hit the road for a pair against Concordia and Point Loma next week before returning home for a three-game week on October 20, 22 and 23.
