ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Jessup women's soccer team fell 7-1 to Concordia (CA) on Friday, Oct. 16, at Warrior Field in a PacWest Conference match. The Warriors (1-9-2, 1-4 PacWest) trailed by just one goal at halftime before the Golden Eagles (8-1-4, 5-0-1 PacWest) scored five times in the second half.
Concordia struck first when Bella Barrett scored in the 6th minute on an assist from Avery Munoz. Ashley Grubert made it 2-0 in the 29th minute, but Jessup answered before the break.
Kaylee Fore scored in the 36th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1, and the score held through halftime. Fore was Jessup's most dangerous attacker, finishing with two shots, both on goal, in 87 minutes of action.
The second half belonged to Concordia, which scored in the 59th, 60th, 63rd, 71st and 85th minutes. Grubert finished with two goals and an assist, and Reagan Van Horn, Irandy Erazo, Katelynn Welch and Mia Psarras each added a goal. Concordia outshot Jessup 15-8 overall and 9-5 in shots on goal, and held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
Several Warriors made their mark on the stat sheet.
Angelina Mitchell played all 90 minutes at defender and led Jessup with two shots, one on goal.
Karlee Lywandowsky also took two shots, one on target, off the bench, and
Kambria Steele put her lone shot on goal.
Mikayla Olariu added a shot in 81 minutes. In goal,
Tyler Boren played 65 minutes and made one save, and
Avery Suhr added one save in 25 minutes. Jessup was whistled for 10 fouls to Concordia's eight and picked up five yellow cards, issued to Steele,
Roxanna Medina,
Samantha Selch,
Rebekah Beasley and one to the team.
Jessup now turns its attention to a three-match trip to Hawaii, all in PacWest play. The Warriors open Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Hawaii-Hilo at Vulcan Soccer Field in Hilo, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. PT (12:30 p.m. HST). They then head to Honolulu to face Chaminade on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Saint Louis Field, with kickoff at 3 p.m. PT (12 p.m. HST). The trip wraps up Monday, Oct. 26, against Hawaii Pacific at Waipi'o Soccer Complex, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. PT (4:30 p.m. HST). All three matches will be streamed on the PacWest Network.
Jessup has been better away from Rocklin this season, going 1-0-1 on the road, including a 3-2 win at Westmont on Oct. 3 powered by a Lywandowsky hat trick, which earned her the first PacWest Player of the Week honor of her career. The Warriors return to the mainland on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Dominican in San Rafael.
