SANTA BARBARA, Calif. –
Karlee Lywandowsky scored all three goals, including the game-winner in the 82nd minute, as the Jessup women's soccer team rallied for a 3-2 victory over Westmont on Saturday at Thorrington Field. The result is the Warriors' first win of the season, their first conference win since 2024 and their first win over Westmont since 2015. Jessup improves to 1-5-2 overall and 1-0 in PacWest play. Westmont falls to 1-5-3 and 0-3.
The first half was scoreless, and Westmont controlled much of the play. The Warriors were outshot 4-2 and faced seven corner kicks. Jessup also committed 13 fouls to Westmont's seven. The Warriors' best chance came in the 37th minute, when
Kendall Cornwell sent a shot toward the bottom center of the goal that was saved by Westmont goalkeeper Ellie Ludwig.
Mackenzie Wright also put a shot out over the top left earlier in the half, and the teams went into the break level at 0-0.
Westmont broke through first in the 59th minute, when Ellie Gilbert finished off an assist from Skyler McNamara to make it 1-0. Jessup answered in the 67th minute when Lywandowsky converted a penalty kick to tie the match. Less than two minutes later, she added her second goal in the 68th minute to put the Warriors ahead 2-1.
Westmont tied it again in the 76th minute, as Gilbert scored her second goal of the day, again off a McNamara assist. The Warriors did not back down. In the 82nd minute, Lywandowsky completed her hat trick to restore the lead, and goalkeeper
Tyler Boren and the Jessup defense held on through the closing minutes. Lywandowsky took four shots, put three on target and scored on all three, playing all 90 minutes in the midfield.
Westmont finished with a 15-8 edge in shots and a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks, with 11 of its shots coming in the second half. However, only three of those shots were on target, compared with four for Jessup. Both goalkeepers recorded one save. Boren played the full 90 minutes for Jessup, while Ludwig did the same for Westmont. Wright added two shots,
Kambria Steele had one and Cornwell recorded a shot on goal.
Angelina Mitchell,
Piper Hansen and Lywandowsky all played the full 90 minutes.
"I'm really proud of how the women responded after going down," said head coach
Amsalu Fantahun. "We didn't get the start we wanted, but this group stayed together and kept believing. Karlee was outstanding today, but this was a team win. Everyone who stepped on the field contributed, and beating Westmont and getting our first conference win is a big step for us."
Jessup returns to Rocklin for its PacWest home opener against Point Loma Nazarene on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. at Warrior Field.
