HILO, Hawaii – The Warriors and the Vulcans squared off to open their PacWest series on the Big Island on Friday afternoon. The two squads split the doubleheader, with Jessup winning game one, 11-2, before the Vulcans took game two, 4-1.
Head coach Brie Campbell said, "Our approach at the plate was exactly what we've been working on. We stayed patient, attacked good pitches, and backed it up with solid defense and a good outing from Nohemi."
The Warriors' offense got off to a hot start in game one, tallying 14 total hits in the opening contest and bringing five runs across to take a commanding lead. Jessup added six more runs over the final two innings to finish with 11 total runs.
Kaiya Miller and Rebekah Beasley were forces at the plate, each going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Reagann Hoblit also had a strong performance, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Starter Nohemi Livingston tossed all seven innings, allowing seven hits. The win marked Livingston's first of the season.
Game two went in favor of the Vulcans, who defeated Jessup 4-1 while holding the Warriors to just three hits after they recorded 14 in the first game.
Campbell added, "We didn't execute in key moments and needed to tighten up our defense in game two. We know the adjustments we need to make to come back stronger tomorrow and go for the series win."
Hilo put four runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning, which proved to be all the offense it needed. Jessup was unable to complete the comeback.
The Warriors scored once in the top of the sixth inning, but the early deficit was too much to overcome. Korrie Almond pitched a complete game and was charged with her second loss of the season, moving to 2-4 on the year.
The Warriors will face Hawaii Hilo again tomorrow in a doubleheader to conclude the series. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 and 4:30 p.m. (PST).
