ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Jessup University women's tennis team returned to the courts on Tuesday morning at the Johnson Ranch Sports Club North, welcoming a tough regional opponent in the Hawaii Pacific University Sharks, 7-0.
The undeniable highlight of the day for Jessup came in the premier doubles matchup. The Warriors' top duo of Briana Smith and Giselli Reschke teamed up to take down their Hawaii Pacific's opponents in a tightly contested 6-4 battle. The victory at No. 1 doubles showcased the resilience and talent at the top of the Warriors' lineup against a formidable HPU squad that improved to 9-3 on the year.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, they were unable to secure the team doubles point. Hawaii Pacific captured the No. 2 doubles match 6-2 over Jessup's Rylie Maloney and Maria Antonella Cardenas, and claimed the No. 3 doubles match by forfeit.
Moving into singles action, the Sharks' depth was on full display. At No. 1 singles, Smith fought hard in the second set but ultimately fell to Noah (6-0, 6-2). Reschke also battled well early on at No. 2 singles, dropping a tough 6-3, 6-0 decision.
Maloney was highly competitive in her opening set at No. 3 singles before ultimately being defeated 6-4, 6-0. Danielle Akabane (No. 4) and Cardenas (No. 5) rounded out the action on the courts for the Warriors, both dropping their respective matchups in straight sets. The Sharks secured the No. 6 singles point by forfeit, bringing the final team score to 7-0.
The Warriors will look to build on the momentum of their impressive top-flight doubles victory as they continue their schedule on the road against Dominican University. First serve will be at 10:00 AM in Kentfield, CA at the College of Marin Tennis Courts.
