Warriors Named Team of the Week Following Four-Game Sweep of Westmont

04/13/26

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Jessup University baseball team has been named the Team of the Week following an incredible display of power, clutch hitting, and dominant pitching. The Warriors earned the honors after pulling off a four-game sweep on the road against PacWest rival Westmont College over the weekend.

The series opened on Friday with an absolute battle. In Game 1, the Warriors leaned on the long ball to secure a thrilling 8-7 victory. The offense was sparked by home runs from Landyn Plaut, Cody Antone, and Justin Tsukada. Plaut was exceptional at the dish, going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Noah Souza stepped up out of the bullpen to earn the win, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and stifling the Westmont offense to hold the lead.

Game 2 saw more of the same offensive spark, as Jessup took a 6-3 victory. Kai Hirayama was a workhorse on the mound, delivering a complete-game performance over 7.0 innings to earn the win. At the plate, Plaut continued his tear with another home run, while Tony Otis (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Jayden Montero (2-for-3, 1 RBI) provided critical run production to keep Jessup firmly in the driver's seat.

Jessup showed their versatility on Saturday, proving they can win tight defensive battles just as well as shootouts. After edging out Westmont in a close 5-4 battle to start the day, the series finale became an ultimate pitching duel. With a sweep on the line in Game 4, starter Eric Vasser put together a masterpiece on the mound. Vasser threw 6.0 scoreless innings, scattering just four hits while striking out six.

The game remained deadlocked in a scoreless tie until the top of the 7th inning, when Cody Antone provided the ultimate heroics. Antone blasted a solo home run down the left-field line, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Reliever Jordan Cezar then slammed the door shut in the bottom of the frame to secure the save, sealing the 1-0 shutout and the series sweep.

By winning in every way imaginable, from slugfests to 1-0 nail-biters, the Warriors have proven they are clicking on all cylinders. The Team of the Week honor is a well-deserved recognition of their collective effort, discipline, and execution in Santa Barbara.

The Warriors will look to carry this massive momentum as they return home to continue their PacWest campaign. Jessup will host Fresno Pacific University for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 16th. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
