SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In the final stretch of the regular season, Jessup University and Azusa Pacific University went head-to-head in a doubleheader to open their four-game series. Each team secured a victory as they split the day; Jessup took game one 9-8 in extra innings, while Azusa Pacific claimed game two 5-4 with a late-inning comeback.

Jessup currently sits in fifth place in the PacWest conference standings as the regular season winds down. With only the top four teams earning a postseason berth, these four games against APU are crucial.

The opening contest was a back-and-forth battle of offenses, with both squads scoring in nearly every inning. APU tallied 17 hits to Jessup's 12 in a game that went down to the wire. In the bottom of the eighth inning, with the score tied 8-8 and the bases loaded, senior Neva Adams called game. Her RBI single ended the extra-inning contest and secured the first win of the series for the Warriors.

Several Warriors contributed to the scoreboard in the victory. Kylie Nunes and Reagan Hoblit led the team with two RBIs each, while Rebekah Beasley, Evangelina Chavarria, Kaiya Miller, and Neva Adams each drove in one run.

In game two, APU took an early lead with a solo homerun to center. Jessup responded quickly, tying the game in the bottom of the first and eventually taking a 2-1 lead in the third. The Warriors added two more runs in the fifth inning to cushion their lead to 4-1.

However, the Cougars sparked a comeback in the late stages. They utilized a three-run homerun in the sixth to tie the game and a go-ahead solo shot in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. Jessup was unable to capitalize in the bottom of the seventh, dropping the second game by a single run.

The Warriors return to the field tomorrow at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to complete the series against Azusa Pacific. Both games will be played at Yuba College.
