ROCKLIN, Calif. — Jessup University Athletics is thrilled to announce the hiring of Jordan Kurtz as the new Head Coach for the Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field programs. Kurtz returns to Rocklin to take the helm after previously serving as an assistant coach for the Warriors from 2022 to 2024.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Jordan Kurtz back to lead our Cross Country and Track & Field programs," said Interim Athletic Director Scott Sorgea. "During his previous tenure at Jessup, Jordan demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the holistic growth of our student-athletes, prioritizing their personal, spiritual, and athletic development. His proven track record in high-level endurance training, paired with his alignment with our university's mission, makes him the ideal leader to guide our Warriors forward."

Kurtz brings a strong background in endurance training, sport psychology, and athletic administration back to the program. During his previous two-year stint at Jessup, he was instrumental in mentoring distance athletes through individualized training focused on whole-person development. On the national stage, his coaching directly contributed to four NAIA national championship qualifications. In addition to athlete development, Kurtz was key to day-to-day operations, managing team administration, gear distribution, competition travel logistics, and assisting in hosting major competitive events with over 1,000 attendees.

"Jessup has always felt like home, and I'm thrilled to be back here in Rocklin as a part of this athletic department," said Kurtz. "This program has had a lot of bright spots through its history, and I'm looking forward to continuing to build on that momentum and create more exciting opportunities for our student-athletes to thrive as Christian students and as athletes."

Beyond his time with the Warriors, Kurtz possesses a rich background in sports performance and public service. His coaching experience includes roles at Dominican University of California and Vacaville High School, where he specialized in sport psychology, mentored student-athletes, and coached 17 all-conference athletes and 7 individual champions. Outside of athletics, Kurtz has demonstrated versatile leadership as an Account Executive in ticket sales and service at UC Davis and served as a Firefighter with CAL FIRE, responding to major strike team deployments across California.

Kurtz earned a Master of Science in Sport Coaching, Leadership, and Administration from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology from Saint Mary's College of California. He also holds USA Track & Field Level II Endurance and Cross Country Specialist certifications. His combined experience in high-level coaching, operational management, and student-athlete mentorship positions Jessup Cross Country and Track & Field for a bright and competitive future.

As the department turns the page to this exciting new chapter, Jessup University extends its sincere gratitude to former Head Coach Laura for her dedicated service and leadership over the past year.
