CERES, Calif. - After a strong start to their season in San Francisco last week, Jessup Cross Country was back on the course at the Kim Duyst Invitational, hosted by Stanislaus State University. The meet was another stepping stone for all members of the squad, including several who built on their previous marks last week in setting season-best times in their respective races.
In the Women's 6K race, sophomore standout
Angela Gladysh continued her impressive start to her Jessup career, running a season-best race and clocking in at 21:48.9, shaving off over 20 seconds from her last week's race in San Francisco. Gladysh's time placed her 14th overall in the 6K race, breaking the top 20 for the first time this season.
Juliet David also recorded an impressive finish, breaking the top 50 and placing 42nd with a lifetime best time of 23:42.5.
"Incredible first collegiate race for Mel, and our women's team continues to race incredibly smart across the board, which is rare to see with such a young team," said the head coach Jordan Kurtz following the meet.
In the Men's 8K, the leader for the Warriors was once again freshman
Ryden Rivera, who also posted a collegiate-best time in his second race of the season. Rivera shaved 26 seconds off his previous race in San Francisco, finishing with a time of 26:39.
"On the men's side, our two freshmen continue to impress and both executed their race plans perfectly," the coach added. "Always a good day when you finish a meet and everyone ran season bests or PRs!"
On the day, every athlete on the team set either a lifetime PR or a season-best mark.
Juliet David,
Jordan Bick,
Antonio Leal,
Ryden Rivera, and
Finnegan Cunningham all recorded lifetime PRs, while
Angela Gladysh,
Oscar Duncan,
Travis Brown, and
Mel Peterson set season-best performances.
The Jessup Cross Country season will continue in two weeks on their home dirt, as the Warriors will host the Jessup Invitational on campus in Rocklin on the morning of September 26. They will look to continue making positive strides, as they have in Ceres, as the second half of the season quickly approaches.
