SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – The Jessup University women's golf team wrapped up the Westminster Wasatch Invitational this weekend at Glenmoor Golf Club, closing out the two-day, 36-hole event in 11th place out of 14 teams with a final score of +49 (27-22). The Warriors trimmed five shots off their opening-round number in round two, showing improvement as the tournament wore on against a deep 14-team field that included six fellow PacWest programs.
Point Loma claimed the team title at +1, edging Westmont (+15) and host Westminster (UT) (+27) for the crown, while Point Loma's Annika Yturralde took home individual medalist honors at three-under-par.
Leading the way for Jessup was sophomore
Natalie Ang, who finished tied for 24th individually at +10 after posting rounds of +8 and +2. Ang's final-round 2-over effort was the low round of the week for the Warriors and a six-shot improvement from her opening 18, a sign of the steady growth she's shown since stepping into the lineup as a freshman a year ago. Right behind her,
Ally Bettencourt and
Isabella Dowd both carded matching totals of +13 to tie for 36th, each posting a +6 in round one before adding a +7 in the finale.
Priscilla Padilla, had her first hole-in-one on the season on the third tee-box of the first round and rounded out the scoring counters with a +14 (T46), while junior
Julianne Canda also finished at +14, backing up consistent rounds of +7 and +7.
As a team, Jessup's counting four each round were remarkably tight — the Warriors' round-one 27-over and round-two 22-over both came from a tightly bunched group, a positive sign for a roster that features several newcomers still finding their footing at the collegiate level. The five-shot improvement from day one to day two mirrors a trend the Warriors have shown under head coach
Seth Heppner's program: better final rounds as players settle into tournament conditions.
Looking ahead, the Warriors will look to carry that second-round momentum into their next start as they continue their fall schedule in the coming weeks heading to the Westmont Invitational October 12-13, with an eye toward building consistency ahead of PacWest Conference competition later in the season.
