ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup University women's volleyball team hosted Point Loma Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Arena. Despite a spirited performance and a thriller third-set victory, the Warriors ultimate fell to the Sea Lions in four sets (21-25, 14-25, 27-25, 15-25) in PacWest Conference play.
The match opened with a competitive first frame, as both teams fought through 11 tie scores and two lead changes. Jessup put up a solid offensive effort with 11 kills, but Point Loma's efficient .383 hitting percentage carried them to a 25-21 win. In the second set, the Sea Lions asserted control, taking advantage of seven Jessup attack errors to claim a 25-14 set victory.
Jessup showed remarkable resilience in a thrilling third set that featured 10 tie scores. The Warriors produced their best offensive display of the afternoon, pounding 19 kills while hitting .226. Pushing past extra points, Jessup captured the set 27-25 to extend the match. Point Loma responded in the fourth set, jumping out early with zero tie scores or lead changes, closing out the match with a 25-15 victory on a .273 hitting efficiency. Overall, Jessup hit .102 with 40 kills and 86 digs, while Point Loma registered 71 kills and a .263 attack percentage.
Several Warriors posted strong statistical efforts throughout the four sets. Outside hitter
Jenna Kraft led the offense with 10 kills and added 13 digs to complete a double-double. Mckinley King and
Mia Rivera provided key contributions at the net, each talling 8 kills and two block assists. In the back row, libero
Jayden Jones anchored the defense with a team-high 20 digs alongside two service aces.
Khaycee Jamias-Cadenas notched a double-double of her own, dishing out 12 assists to go with 16 digs, while setter Kjersti Jacobson contributed 14 assists and 11 digs.
Following the match, Head Coach Taylor Jacky reflected on the team's grit and execution during the contest. "I loved the fight our group showed in that third set," said Jacky. "We executed at a high level when the pressure was on, and that's the standard of volleyball we know we are capable of playing consistently."
Looking ahead, the Warriors will take a trip to the islands to take on the trio of Hawai'i teams next week. Jessup will look to harness the momentum from Saturday's set victory as they pursue their first conference win of the season.
