Warrior’s Face First Loss in Oregon

Jessup Struggles to Find the Bottom of the Net Against Tournament Host

The Warrior's women's basketball team (4-1) faced their first loss of the season on a long road trip Friday against the host of the Midland Empire Classic, Oregon Institute of Technology (4-2), by a score of 77-48.

Jessup scored the first two baskets of the night to start the game with a 4-0 lead but it would be the only time in the evening the Warriors would own the scoreboard. The Owls of OIT immediately stole the momentum with a 6-0 run of their own. They would continue to build on that momentum until the score read 17-8 at the conclusion of the first quarter.

The rest of the game felt similar to the first quarter. The Warriors were getting good shots off, they didn't have a crazy number of turn overs, they were out rebounded, but not horribly so. The only difference in this game was simply that Jessup was unable to coax the ball through the hoop.

The final statistics sheet showed the Warriors converting jump shots into points just 24.2 % of the time and they went on a season low 1-16 from behind the three point arc over the course of the game. On a positive note, when Jessup was given a free look at the basket they took advantage, shooting 81% from the free throw line during the game.

Senior Megan Scully (Newark, CA) would lead the team in the blue jerseys offensively ending the game with 10 points and 6 rebounds for the Warriors. Fellow senior Crystal Sewell (Ophir, CA) won over the rebound eight times by the evening's end. Jessup's sophomore class also showed a strong fight during the game with Rona Chavez and Ashlyn Jones each putting eight points on the board.

The Warriors will get a night off to rest their legs and prepare for their second game in Klamath Falls, facing off against Southern Oregon University Saturday at 1:00 pm. The Warriors will return home over Thanksgiving break to take on Corban University on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. in Warrior Arena.
