Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Jessup Falls to #21 Westmont 3-0 in GSAC Opener

Warrior Volleyball Challenges Talented Westmont Program

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warrior volleyball team has built up a lot of positive momentum preparing for conference play in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) but couldn't keep it rolling, falling to #21 Westmont on the road 0-3 (13-25, 23-25, 14-25).

The Jessup team showed great progress in the season's first weeks, winning four of their last seven matches after starting the season 0-3, and the team was excited for the challenges that come with playing the notorious Southern California GSAC volleyball programs.

Similarly, Westmont has been on the move up finding themselves ranked 21st this week after having been excluded from the top 25 in the preseason polls. After last night's performance, they should find themselves continuing their upward trek in polling.

Jessup's Warriors struggled to gain an offensive foothold throughout the match, only mustering a hitting percentage of .121 and converting on 25 kills co-led by Ellie Selleck (Grass Valley, CA), and Carlie Mills (Scottsdale AZ) each with six.  Setter Kylee Thompson (Gilbert, AZ), a consistent leader for the Warrior's in assists, fulfilled that role leading the team with 19.

The Warriors did have a number bright spots on the night. After making a number of adjustments following game one, the Warriors started finding and taking advantage of holes in the Westmont defense during the evening's second game, only succumbing to Westmont by the narrowest of margins 23-25.

Jessup will be looking to bounce back tonight and continue their positive progression as their road trip takes them to The Master's College in Santa Clarita, California. The match will have its first serve at 4:00 PM and can be watched live at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/jessup/.
