SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The William Jessup women's volleyball team wrapped up their two-game road quest at The Master's University this afternoon. At the last outing the Warriors pushed the Mustangs to five sets to solidify the win, but tonight Masters held the advantage taking it 3-0 (16-25, 16-25, 24-26).
"We played two very good GSAC teams this weekend," said head coach
Shasta Millhollin. "The Master's University has a lot of experienced leadership. We knew they would be looking for a second-round win. "
The Master's took back-to-back sets to go up early against the Warriors but resilience showed through for Jessup as they battled the third set to the finish.
Continuing to play catchup, the Warriors were down 16-10 in the third set before going on a 7-1 run to tie it up at 17. Both teams exchanged points, recording 4 ties until knotted at 24. The Mustangs would go on to collect two kills to take the third and final set, 26-24.
Freshman
Alicia Borges collected her 30th season ace tonight, good for the third best in the GSAC this season and tied for sixth in all-time season record for Jessup. Just ahead of Borges is freshman setter
Jessica Williams with 40 season aces, second best in the GSAC and fourth all-time in the Warriors record book for single-season stats.
"I'm proud of
Alicia Borges and
Jessica Williams for serving tough all weekend and all season long," Millhollin stated. "To have them both ranked in the top three for aces in the GSAC is a great accomplishment!"
The Warriors will head home for two conference matchups next week on Friday, October 21 against Biola and Saturday, October 22 against Hope International.
