Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Brie Campbell

Warriors Push to the Finish, but Hope Prevails 3-0

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The women's volleyball team hosted back-to-back home matches concluded with Hope International on Saturday night. It was a battle to the end for the Warriors as they took the Royals to extra points in two sets, but Hope finished on top taking it 3-0 (9-25, 24-26, 24-26).

The Warriors were off to a slow start in the first set unable to keep up with the momentum of the Royals. Hope recorded almost double the kills in the first set to Jessup, taking the 1-0 lead clinching 25 first.

After the warm up, Jessup came out in the second and third sets fighting hard, and maintaining the lead multiple times.

In the second set the Warriors jumped out to a 4-1 lead over the Royals before they answered back going on a 9-1 run. Answering back was Jessup who countered, forcing Hope to take their first time out ahead by one (8-9).

Jessup did not let up and continued the pressure exchanging points with Hope. The Warriors took their final timeout in the second set down 18-20 but fired back and would tie it up at 24 before Hope finished the set on a high 26-24 to go ahead 2-0.

The third game mirrored the second as the Warriors were not going to let up their momentum and intensity built in the second outing. Midway through the set Hope and Jessup locked at 13, 14, and 15 to prove it was anyones set to take.

Jessup went on a 3-0 run to get within two forcing Hope to take a timeout late in the set (20-22). Jessup trailed 20-24 and fought hard to tie it up, 24-24 but with two late errors, Hope took the set 26-24 and match 3-0.

Powerhouse Makenzie Reeder-Esparza posted double digits at the net with 10 kills on the night. She was followed by teammates on the outside, Vendela Williams (6) and Michaela Zapata (5) and middle Jennah Richmond (5).

The Warriors will host two more league matches on Friday and Saturday before finishing the season on the road.
