ATHERTON, Calif. - With a strong kickoff by hosting GSAC opponent, Menlo College, the women's soccer team got behind early and despite strong defensive efforts the Warriors were not able to execute offensively in the second half to come back as The Oaks took it 2-0.
"We started the first half allowing Menlo to dictate the pace of the game," head coach
Rachel Constantini said. "Once we were able to settle in, maintain possession, and find feet the game started to turn."
The Warriors struggled to get on the board in the first half, giving up 2 goals on 9 shots by the Oaks while Jessup had only a pair of shots on goal.
Sophomore
Yvette Perez worked her way forward with a high miss off the cross bar in the 42nd minute. With the deflection the Warriors kept the ball in range for another opportunity from Perez in the same minute, but not enough to transfer to the scoreboard.
Taking to the field more aggressively, Jessup continued to fight hard against The Oaks in the second half. They added another three shots on goal, with Menlo taking 8 shots in the final half. Goalkeeper Brianna Evens snagged 6 saves on the day, only allowing the two first-half goals.
The Warriors continued to compete while keeping a strong defense holding Menlo scoreless in the final 45 minutes, yet they were unable to find the net dropping their third GSAC contest, 2-0.
"Unfortunately for us, we were not able to convert our opportunities to goals even though we out played our opponent in the 2nd half," stated Constantini. "These girls continue to amaze me with their growth, their determination to persevere and their heart."
Next up for the Warriors is their first GSAC contests against The Masters University at home on Saturday, October 8 at 2pm on Jessup Field.
"We are looking forward to hosting Masters on Saturday for our first GSAC competition at home," Constantini said. "We have a long history of great battles with their program and will be looking to walk off the field with our first conference W."
