Lady Warriors Fight but Chico Defends Home Court

CHICO, Calif. - The Lady Warriors traveled to Chico State for a more challenging match in their schedule, while they fighting hard to the finish Jessup was unable to steal a set (12-25, 17-25, 22-25).

"It's important for us to play NCAA teams during this time in our schedule to keep us sharp," said head coach Shasta Millhollin. "Chico is a top California Collegiate Athletic Conference team with some athletic and talented players."

The Wildcats defended their home court well, showing the Warriors in the first set they were competitive and wouldn't let up.  Jessup fell behind 12-1 before pushing back going on a 5-0 run (14-8) but unable to break the momentum Chico gained losing the first set 12-25.

The Lady Warriors were warmed up and prepared for battle in the second set going back and forth in exchanging points with the Wildcats, holding the lead until both teams met at 9.  Both teams pushed tying it back up at 14, 15, and 16 before Chico took the advantage going on a 6-0.  Warriors were able to add one more to the board but fell short in set two (17-25).

After the break Jessup continued to show they could compete with top teams exchanging the lead with Chico once again to start the game. The Warriors led the third set with 19 kills to the Wildcats 11, led by freshmen Taylor Jacky with 5 of her 9 in the final set and Vendela Williams recording 3 of her 7.

Despite the aggressive offensive effort, the Warriors finished just short, 22-25 in the final set to end the match.

"Each set we played them tougher and tougher," Millhollin commented. "We are disappointed about the amount of unforced errors in set 3, which overcame our ability to steal the third set."

Jessup will head to Simpson University tomorrow before taking a day break at home, then hitting the road for southern california conference contests against Hope International and Biola.

"We learned a lot tonight about adjusting our systems when the pressure is on," Millhollin concluded on the night. "Overall, we made some great adjustments and fought hard. Our focus now is to beat Simpson on the road tomorrow."
