Bumps Overcome Warrior's First Conference Road Quest

LA MIRADA, Calif. - With back-to-back conference matches the Warriors traveled down the road to take on the nationally ranked Biola after going five sets with Hope International the previous night. Jessup played with confidence and determination but was unable to steal a set falling to the Eagles 3-0.

The Eagles started the game strong, showing their hard work to reach national recognition.  Jessup used both timeouts in the first set, the final timeout came after a 7-1 run by Biola (19-8). Jensen Paris led the team with 4 of 8 total kills in the first game, but the Eagles rallied to take the first set 25-13.

Jessup fell behind early in the second set (5-0) but went on a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the game. The Warriors led with three kills, followed by an ace by Jessica Williams to get back in it, determined to finish the set strong.  It was an exchanged of points to 19 before Jessup took their final timeout trailing the Eagles 20-23. With the unfortunate errors the Warriors fell in the second game 25-21.

"Biola is currently ranked 15th in the Nation," head coach Shasta Millhollin stated. "They have an amazing coach as well as talented and experienced players. Going into this match we knew that we would need to bring a ton of positive energy and hustle."

In the final set the Warriors trailed the Eagles a majority of the game, but continued to fight and battle to the end.  Vendela Williams drove the force for the Warriors with three of her six kills in the final set.  Although the Lady Warriors continued to compete, the Eagles took the last set 25-13, winning 3-0.

"Unfortunately we were not on top of our game today and struggled to stay in our system," Millhollin said. "Overall we have learned a lot this weekend and we know that these experiences will make us stronger for the season ahead."

Jessup will hit the road back home and take on Mills College on Monday before hosting their next conference competition, Menlo on Saturday, September 24 at 3pm.

"This team is incredibly hard working and resilient, and we are looking forward to coming back to Warrior Arena on Monday to play Mills College," Millhollin concluded.
