Trio of Early Goals Backs Jessup Victory over Pacific Union

A. Guzman Nets Two Goals in the Win, Warriors Pick up Fifth Win in Six Matches

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Coming off a tough loss in double overtime Saturday, Jessup quickly got back to work as they hosted, and shutout the Pacific Union College Pioneers 3-0.
The Warriors found the back of the net right off the bat, taking just eight minutes to do so. Sophomore Adolfo Guzman (Las Vegas, NV) slotted in a shot to the lower left corner for the team's first goal.

Three minutes later Guzman got his side on the board again, as after drawing a penalty the sophomore forward converted on the attempt to make it 3-0.

"I think it's always good to put goals in the back of the net because it gets you excited to score the next one," said head coach Greg Lazaga. "It was definitely good to get something in the back of the net, especially after a tough way that things ended the other day."

Jessup's third and final goal of the day was put in by senior Jose Hernandez (Ukiah, CA). The goal was assisted by sophomore Omar Magana, who placed a through to Hernandez past the goalkeeper who came out off his line.
Junior Robert Harmelink (Modesto, CA) got the start in goal. Harmelink played 45-minutes, and was replaced by sophomore Nick Garcia (Sacramento, CA) for the second half.

Pacific Union was able to establish their back line in the second half. Jessup's attempt to press and and another goal were thwarted, as the Warriors were drawn offside for a total of 8 times in the match.

"That was due to our shape and structure," added Lazaga on the numerous offside calls. "We decided to change things up a little bit today, it didn't quite execute the way we wanted it to. Definitely something we'll be working on throughout the week."

In total, the Warriors got off 31 shots (16 SOG) in the win Monday, as opposed to just 2 by the Pioneers.

"We're going at it hard, were not taking anything for granted," added Lazaga on his team's practice schedule for the week. "Right now we're 0-1 in GSAC, so we're going at it hard all week long."

The win improves Jessup's overall record to 5-3. The season continues on Saturday when the Warriors take on Arizona Christian for a GSAC matchup in Phoenix.
