PHOENIX, Ariz. - Closing out their two-game road series, the Warriors took on Arizona Christian where the all-time series was tied, 2-2. The Warriors held the advantage through the first half, but the Firestorm sparked and took over the second half to finish on top 63-55.
Ashlyn Jones scored 22 points with 11 boards posting back-to-back double-doubles after her 20 points and 10 rebound outing against San Diego Christian on Thursday and her fifth total this season.
Despite the offensive dominance by Jones, the Warriors struggled from the floor in the second half going just 12-for-34, shooting a low 35-percent.
In familiar fashion the Warriors struggle to start but warmed up as the game continued. Jessup was able to chip away at the Firestorms' 8-0 start with a team effort to tie it up at the 1:30 mark, 11 a-piece to go into the second quarter.
Arizona would come out with a 4-0 run but
Rona Chavez answered back with a pair of baskets to put the Warriors back ahead by one, 16-15 with just over 6 minutes to play in the half.
Headed to the locker room the Warriors held the slight edge over the home Firestorm, 26-21 with Jones leading the force with 9 points, followed by Chavez with 7 and
Janelle Luu with 4.
Just three minutes into the third quarter, Arizona would tie it up and take the lead for the remainder of the third quarter.
With just one quarter ahead of them the Warriors answered back and took the go-ahead basket with 5- minutes left to play,
Leilua Iosia with the steal and pass to Chavez for the lay in and 50-49 advantage.
But the Firestorm would silence the Warriors for the next three minutes to go on a 7-0 run with two minutes left in regulation. Sarah Vasquez would hit a late three with seconds left to play, but the Warriors weren't able to catch up to the Firestorm, falling to 1-5 in conference as Arizona advances to 4-3.
The Warriors come back home for a two-game series in Warrior Arena. On Thursday they will face Menlo College in their second-round meeting at 5:30pm and Saturday they host The Master's for an afternoon game, tipoff slated for 2pm.
