SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Lady Warriors opened up their two-game home series against Menlo College looking to snap their six-game skid without leading point guard
Olivia Luu who's been out due to injury. Jessup struggled out the gate, coming back with a stronger three quarters following, but it wasn't enough as the Oaks took the win 84-61.
It was a rough start for the Warriors as the Oaks sparked the first quarter with 18-9 lead to open up the first 10-minutes of play. Junior
Ashlyn Jones started off hot for Jessup scoring the last three baskets of the quarter in the paint to get some momentum going into the second quarter.
It was a more even match from that point on as the Warriors cut the lead to as little as 6 points just two minutes in with a three ball from Jones assisted by
Sara Vasquez. The Oaks would answer back with an 11-0 run to go up 33-16 with 4 minutes to play in the first half.
While the Oaks took the lead, the Warriors were sent to the line 10 times in the final two minutes, going 7-10 in that span. Closing out the half the Warriors would trail Menlo 40-22.
Coming out from the break the Warriors continued to defend their home court in the final two quarters. Despite their efforts the Oaks extended their lead to 22 going into the final 10 minutes of the night (62-40).
Emilee VanDyke would open the fourth quarter with a basket in the paint. VanDyke took charge in the paint both offensively and defensively scoring 14 points for the Warriors, while going 6-8 from the line.
In her third game in a row with twenty-plus points, just two rebounds shy of another double-double, Jones finished with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. This season Jones' is averaging 16 points per game, ranked top-five for scoring in the GSAC.
Jessup would close out the final quarter just one-point shy of matching the visiting Oaks quarter score (22-21) but we unable to overcome the early fall behind as the Oaks took the win advancing to 2-5 in conference, while the Warriors fall to 1-6.
The Warriors will close out their two-game home stand against The Master's Mustangs on Saturday with a new game time of 1p.m.
