ROCKLIN, Calif. - Closing out their two-game series on home court, the Lady Warriors took on The Master's University for a matinee game, looking to capitalize on starting point guard
Olivia Luu returning. Jessup worked hard to stay within reasonable distance to the visiting Mustangs, but down the stretch, the Warriors were unable to catch the herd who ran away with the 59-42 advantage.
With no more than a two-point lead through the first five minutes, the Warriors came out aggressive matching basket for basket with the Mustangs, taking their only lead (11-9) of the game with a three-pointer from
Rona Chavez.
The Mustangs would answer back and go on a late opening quarter run, 6-1, to take the lead closing out the first 10 minutes of play, 18-12.
The Warriors would struggle from the field in the second quarter as the Mustangs continued to make connections. Up by 12, the Warriors had a last minute opportunity by
Janelle Luu in the paint to close the gap heading into the break, 30-20 Masters up.
Continuing to not be able to connect from the field in the third quarter, Masters took advantage and took a 19-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
Closing out the game in the final quarter, the Warriors outscored the Mustangs by a bucket, holding them to single digits for the last 10 minutes (8 points).
Rona Chavez would lead the Warriors offensively with 10 points, going 2-3 from beyond the arc before going down in the second half not to return.
Janelle Luu would finish behind Chavez with 8 points and 8 rebounds, followed by
Ashlyn Jones and
Emilee VanDyke adding six points each.
The Warriors will hit the road for a pair of southern California road games next week, kicking it off at Hope International on Thursday at 5:30 pm, followed by Vanguard University on Saturday at 5:30 pm.
