Jessup Opens New Home Field with First-Ever Non-Conference Win

Warriors Split Opening Day Doubleheader with Oregon Tech, Peterson Hits Two Solo Homers

LINCOLN, Calif. –  After months of anticipation, the new home for William Jessup University baseball was finally opened for business Saturday as the Warriors played host to the Oregon Tech Owls. Backed by a pair of bombs from senior Rory Peterson (Reno, NV), the Warriors were able to split the doubleheader and earn the first ever non-conference victory in program history.

GAME ONE
Junior Tristan Prybylinski (Discovery Bay, CA) got the starting nod for Saturday's opener and looked good out of the gates as he set down the side in order in the first. The left-hander would go 4.2 innings while allowing two runs on four hits, walking four while striking out two. Sophomore Danny Vietti (Sacramento, CA) entered the game in relief and pitched the remainder of the contest.

Peterson excited the packed crowd in the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run. Peterson, who hit the first home run in program history back in 2015, can add the first home run in McBean Park history to his resume as well. The Warriors had a chance to take the lead or win in the ninth down 4-3, but the potential tying and winning runs were stranded in scoring position.

Oregon Tech got their first run in the fourth when they loaded the bases with nobody out, but just one run would be all that Prybylinski would surrender in the inning. The Owls would add runs in the fifth and seventh as well to pad their tally, as they would take the win 4-3.

GAME TWO
Oregon Tech struck first again in game two, as the first run of the game would cross home plate on a successful delayed steal. After the runner from first stole second, the runner on third ran home with the catcher's throw. Jessup would tie the game in the bottom of the first on a solo shot from Peterson.

An error with two outs in the second would give the Owls a 2-1 lead. In the fourth, sophomore Joshua Duitsman (Bakersfield, CA) tied the game with a RBI double down the right field line. One batter later, junior Joey Torres (Newark, CA) put the Warriors up for good as he drove in Duitsman on a bloop single into the gap.

Freshman Hayden Piner (Auburn, CA) got the win in his collegiate debut, pitching four innings in a starting role. Senior Jacob Wilson (Tracy, CA) recorded the three-inning save as he did not allow a run in his time of relief.

The season continues tomorrow as the Warriors and Owls hit the diamond once again for another doubleheader. First pitch at McBean Park in Lincoln is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
