Warriors Battle from Behind but Come Up Short in Double OT

A. Guzman Led With a Pair of Goals and Cervantes with the Equalizer in the 87th Minute

FULLERTON, Calif. - In what would be the second double-overtime contest of the day, the Warriors battled back from behind scoring in the last few minutes of regulation against Hope International to push it to two extra periods, but the Royals took it in the end, 4-3.

The Warriors let one in early as Hope took the lead 1-0 just three minutes into the game, but in true Warrior fashion, they worked hard to answer back. In the 6th minute, Adolfo Guzman had a one-on-one situation with Royal's keeper up the middle finding the back of the net to even the score 1-1, assisted by Edson Gomez.

Going into halftime the Royals extended their lead 3-1 with goals in the 20th and 37th minutes.

Coming from behind, the Warriors had ample opportunities in the second half outshooting their opponent 7-5 and making a connection twice to send it into extra minutes. In the 69th minute, the Warriors would get one step closer as Eric Cobain sent one in from the corner and Guzman would make the connection heading it into the far left post to trail by one, his second goal of the game.

In the 86th minute freshman Paul Anderson took the open look hitting the right post and teammate Daniel Cervantes made contact cutting up the middle to finish the shot sending it in for his second goal of the season and equalizer to push it to overtime.

In extra minutes, the Warriors would have a trio of opportunities in the third period and roles reversed in the fourth period as the Royals took it in the 105th minute with a header straight on for the 4-3 victory.

After starting the first two conference weekends on the road, the Warriors will return home for the next 5 contests first taking on Arizona Christian on Thursday at 4 pm and San Diego Christian on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
