ROCKLIN, Calif. - Coming off their first conference win last week, the Warrior's men's soccer team kept the momentum alive in a down-to-the-wire matchup against conference foe, Menlo College (6-6-2, 2-4-1). The Warriors scored the game-winning goal in the final minutes to top the Oaks 2-1 advancing to 5-9-1 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
Continuing to groom a young squad, head coach
Greg Lazaga was excited for his team today and the direction they are headed, "We battled an opponent with a similar play style early in the year and lost. Today's win demonstrates that we have learned from some of our mistakes and are headed in the right direction."
The Warriors would strike first with Connor Entz delivering the ball from midfield in front of
Oscar Munoz and three defenders as Munoz left his defenders behind and placed the ball in the back right corner of the net to take the 1-0 lead in the 38th minute.
Through the first half, Menlo led in the shots category 4-3 and continued to dominate that column taking it 10-4 in the second half.
The Warrior would commit a foul in the box late in the second half as the Oaks evened the score 1-1 with ten minutes left in regulation off a penalty kick.
But with plenty of time on the clock, Jessup used every minute of it before
Christian Guzman punched the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute with a left-footed boot from the center to score for the Warriors, his fourth goal of the season.
The Oaks would look one more time, but senior goalkeeper
Robert Harmelink deflected the shot and the Warriors would go on to win 2-1.
Jessup will host their final round of conference matchups next week kicking off with Westmont on Thursday (3:30 pm) and The Master's on Saturday (1:30 pm) for senior day.
