ROCKLIN, Calif. - Returning home for their second round of conference matchups, the women's soccer team welcomed Menlo College to Jessup Field for their first meeting of the season. The Oaks took the early lead and added a cushion in the second half to take the 2-0 advantage over the Warriors.
Head coach
Rachel Constantini was pleased with the competitiveness displayed by her team, "We played a great, physical, competitive match today. Our missing piece is capitalizing on our opportunities in front of the net."
Scoreless through the first half of the opening 45 minutes, the Warriors had a pair of shots from
Kailee Soares missing wide, and
Janelle Schuette on frame, but the Oaks' keeper collecting the save. Menlo would make a connection in the in the 25th minute on a second-chance ball with the first attempt deflected by goalkeeper
Camille Cavey for the Warriors and the Oaks finding the net the second time around for the 1-0 lead.
Menlo led at halftime 1-0 outshooting the Warriors 9-2. They would continue to challenge on frame leading 4-3 in the second half.
An insurance goal was added for Menlo in the 62nd minute securing the 2-0 win over the Warriors.
"We know we are able to compete with anyone in this league, we just need to continue to work until that's reflected on the scoreboard," Constantini said. "I am proud of the girls for never losing their ability to fight under any circumstance."
A special thank you to the Warrior community for donating many goods to be taken to benefit the Sonoma County victims.
Coach Constantini extended her gratitude, "We are incredibly grateful for all of the generous donations provided to us for the victims of the wildfires. We are so appreciative of this community's heart for helping others."
Jessup will return to the pitch next week for a pair of conference matches on Thursday against Westmont College (1 pm) and Saturday versus The Master's (11 am) for senior day.
