ROCKLIN, Calif. - Kicking off the final homestand for the Warriors, Jessup welcomed nationally ranked (7) Westmont College for their second meeting of the season. In the first meeting just under a month ago, the battle of the Warriors went into extra minutes, but the nationally recognized Warriors reigned true in the final meeting with a 4-0 victory.
Head coach
Rachel Constantini commented on her team's performance, "The girls were able to make adjustments and come out with a much better mindset in the second half. We know that Westmont is No. 7 in the country for a reason, they are a very talented team. Unfortunately, we weren't able to match their play today."Â
Westmont attacked early with a goal in the first minute of play (1:28) to go up 1-0 in a one-on-one with keeper
Camille Cavey of the Jessup Warriors delivered by NAIA Player of the Week Maddi Berthoud.
Another goal would come in the 10th and 30th minute that would extend the lead to 3-0 heading into the half.
"It's difficult to mentally stay in a game when you go down a goal in the first two minutes," Constantini said, "that definitely rattled us in the first half."
Jessup battled back in the second half outshooting Westmont 6-3 but were unable to find the back of the net as Westmont tacked on another goal for the 4-0 win.
Saturday the Warriors will return to the pitch for the final home game of the season to celebrate the nine graduating seniors and host The Master's University, kickoff at 11 am, senior ceremony to begin at 10:45 am.
"We're very excited to celebrate all of our amazing seniors and their accomplishments on Saturday," Constantini reflected. "This group is very special and should produce an exciting match against Masters."
