Early Goal Captures Warriors First Conference Win

Marissa Sanders Scored the Game-Winning Goal in the 7th Minute of Play

ROCKLIN, Calif. -  The women's soccer team hosted the Annual Andrew Rundle Memorial game on Saturday welcoming San Diego Christian to Jessup Field where fans were on the edge of their seat the remaining 83 minutes as the Warriors took the 1-0 advantage to capture their first conference win in the 7th minute of play!

After Thursday's game head coach Rachel Constantin said, "We knew we needed a positive result to keep us on track this season." She went on to comment on today's performance, "The girls played an excellent game, exhibiting mental and physical toughness. It's never easy to hold a 1-0 lead for over 80 minutes but the team decided to give everything they had today."

Striking what would be the game-winning goal for the Warriors was senior captain Marissa Sanders, her fourth goal of the season, with a rocket set up by senior teammate Mikayla English to the right post in the 7th minute.

The Warriors would outshoot the Hawks 12-3 with a handful of looks on frame as San Diego Christian's goalkeeper snagged 3 saves. Defending for Jessup was familiar Camille Cavey who had her own pair of saves for a total 61 saves thus far on the season, just 6 saves away from the program record most saves in a single season.

It was a team win for the Warriors as the backline defended three corner kicks from the Hawks and a pair of shots on goal. Offensively Sanders and Yvette Perez led the Warriors with three shots each.

Constantini told her team this is just the beginning, "After the game, we discussed using this win as a launching point for the remainder of our season. It excites me to see the girl's passion and enthusiasm for the game return after the adversity we've been challenged with."

The Warriors will return to the pitch next Saturday, October 14th at 11 am to welcome conference foe, Menlo College for their Breast Cancer Awareness game. The first 100 fans will receive a custom pink ribbon sticker that serves as a reminder for those touched by breast cancer that is close to the team.
