ROCKLIN, Calif. – In the first game of the FCA classic held at Simpson University, the Warriors lost to Corban University 69-70, in a nail-biting finish.
In the first quarter, the Warriors came out strong, posting 22 points and claimed a seven-point lead heading into the second quarter. The strong start for Jessup was in large part to their hot shooting as they were over 50% from the field in the first quarter.
However, in the second period, the Warriors hit a snag. They only posted nine points shooting just 2 of 13 from the field and 1 of 6 from the three-point line. At the start of the second quarter, the Warriors held a narrow lead, 31-30.
In a resurgent third quarter, the Warriors rallied back and doubled their scoring total from the previous quarter and carried a slim two-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The final quarter was a back and forth affair with the lead changing multiple times between these two teams. Ultimately the Warriors were unable to claim a victory and lost 69-70.
The Warriors were led by freshman center, Miranda Zaragoza, who had a game-high 21 points, and pulled down 8 rebounds. Ashlyn Jones and Olivia Luu also scored in double-figures as Jones posted 16 and Luu with 13. Lily Hagerty had a productive night as she finished with seven points and led the team in assists with seven.
Jessup will be back in action on Sunday at 5 PM against Simpson University in their second game of the FCA Classic.
