Warrior Offense Dominates Red Hawks

Jessup women's basketball improves to 5-2 to start the season

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The William Jessup Warriors had a phenomenal bounce-back performance as they defeated the Simpson Red Hawks 86-60. This was the Warriors second and final game of the FCA Classic where they went 1-1 on the weekend, advancing to 5-2 overall.

In the bounce-back performance, the Warriors had a strong first quarter as they posted 21 points shooting 60-percent from the field, and draining three of four from deep. Despite the hot shooting, the Warriors carried a three-point lead into the second quarter.

The Warriors continued their success with an even better following quarter as they put up 26 points and held a 13-point lead heading into the break. With a favorable lead at the start of the third period, the Warriors weren't looking back and held the Red Hawks to 11 third-quarter points while they put up 19 of their own. After outscoring Simpson in the first three quarters, Jessup did more of the same in the fourth, coming away victorious 86-60.

As a team, the Warriors shot 51-percent from the field and from beyond the arc they shot even better at 57-percent. Anisah Smith led the Warriors in scoring on the night with 19 and also chipped in 7 assists. Senior forward Ashlyn Jones continued her scoring onslaught as she posted 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Olivia Luu was in complete control of the game from her point guard position as she posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.

However, it wasn't just Luu who was distributing the ball well, it was a team effort, and head coach Kurt Westendorp was pleased from his squad saying, "I loved how well we shared the basketball tonight."

The superb passing lead to great scoring opportunities as the Warriors had five players score in double figures.

Westendorp concluded with, "This was our best ball movement game and it showed with 24 assists on 29 made field goals."

The Warriors will be back in action on Friday, November 17 as they travel up north for the Lithia Oregon Tech Classic.
